This course will provide guidance to identify ethical dilemmas and make informed decisions that protect mental health practitioners from ethical and legal violations and protect clients from harm. This course meets the requirements for NYS Licensed Professionals ethics and boundaries training - required to be completed once per every registration period per the NYS Education Department Office of the Professions.
Learning ObjectivesAs a result of attending this course, learners will be able to:
- Describe the ethical and legal responsibility of mental health practitioners to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with their clients.
- Recognize and describe dual relationships.
- Implement systems and practices that will avoid the development of dual relationships whenever avoidable.
- Implement systems and practices to minimize hard to clients and the practitioner whenever dual relationships are not avoidable.
About Dr. MurphyTom Murphy completed a doctorate in Counselor Education and Practice and Georgia State University. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York, a National Certified Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor, and is certified by EMDRIA a an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) clinician. He provided clinical services (trauma focused) at Positive Impact Health Centers in Decatur, GA. He conducted workshops on Clinical Supervision, Telemental Health, and Supervision Ethics; and provided supervision and clinical practice at Advanced Counselor Training and Supervisions LLC in Atlanta. Tom is also a former associate professor of counseling at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY as well as owns a private counseling practice.
