Mission
The NYMHCA Institute was founded to address the increasing need for quality, accessible professional development and community education for mental health and other professionals.  The Institute’s mission is to increase the knowledge and understanding of mental health, treatment, programming, and advocacy, and to bring awareness and education about mental health to communities and to provide training and resources to professionals who may interact with persons with mental health disorders. The Institute’s vision is to see New York communities embrace their neighbors and gain a better understanding of the importance of good mental health and ways in which they can support their fellow community members.

Affiliation
The NYMHCA Institute, Inc. is an affiliated, but separate entity, of the New York Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (NYMHCA). The Institute was established after the NYMHCA board of directors recognized a need for additional educational programming in New York and determined it was most appropriate to organize a new entity focused on professional development and education. The Institute is governed by a separate and independent board of directors but often collaborates with NYMHCA to maintain an existing presence within New York State.
Continuing Education Approvals

The NYMHCA Institute, Inc is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed mental health counselors (#MHC-0034).

The NYMHCA Institute, Inc. is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed marriage and family therapists (#MFT-0118).

The NYMHCA Institute, Inc. is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Workers as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed master social workers and licensed clinical social workers (#SW-0764).

The NYMHCA Institute, Inc. is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Psychology as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychologists (#PSY-0252).


The NYMHCA Institute is an authorized Education and Training Provider of the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS). Training provided by The NYMHCA Institute is acceptable toward renewal credentialing for CASAC, CPP, CPS, CASAC-G, CPP-G, and CPGC credentials. (Certification Number 1431)


 The NYMHCA Institute, Inc. has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7407. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The NYMHCA Institute, Inc.is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

New York Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization and a state chapter of
the American Mental Health Counselors Association.
The NYMHCA Institute, Inc. is an affiliated but separate 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization.
